Dragonfly Habitat Bank: Pioneering Biodiversity Net Gain in Local Development
Dragonfly Habitat Bank is at the forefront of integrating Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) into development, providing sustainable solutions that enhance local ecosystems while supporting responsible growth.
With recent BNG regulations now a critical element of planning and development, Dragonfly is leading the charge in creating, managing and monitoring habitats that contribute to the ecological health of our environment.
At Dragonfly’s Wood End site, significant progress is underway to establish a rich tapestry of species-rich grassland, new woodlands, and intricate networks of hedgerows.
Recent efforts show the land being carefully prepared for planting - a process vital for nurturing nature’s corridors. Once complete, this area will not only support biodiversity but will also be accessible to the public, offering a tangible connection to the natural world.
Meanwhile, at Wychnor Meadows, part of the Trent Washlands, Dragonfly’s collaboration with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is enhancing a region of natural importance. Here, ancient, indigenous species are being planted to create extensive habitats where nature can thrive.
The Trust is also harvesting seeds and green hay from the site to support other conservation projects across Staffordshire, amplifying the positive impact of our work.
Dragonfly Habitat Bank’s approach exemplifies how BNG can be seamlessly integrated into development projects, ensuring that nature is prioritised alongside progress.
Dragonfly’s work at Wood End and Wychnor Meadows is just the beginning - by utilising strategic, science-led practices, we are creating resilient habitats that will serve as a lasting legacy for future generations.
